President Donald Trump’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un will take place at the Capella Hotel on the resort island of Sentosa, off the southern coast of Singapore, the White House announced Tuesday.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders confirmed the venue for the June 12 get-together via Twitter on Tuesday.
Various media in recent days had honed in on the island – home to the Universal Studios Singapore theme park – as a likely meeting place for the two world leaders after hotels there experienced heightened security activity.
The government of Singapore also recently declared the posh tourist sector a “special event area” in anticipation of the Trump-Kim meeting.
“Curved, modern buildings gently intermingle with both our colonial buildings and the verdant, vibrant rainforest spread over 30 acres of land,” boasts the website for the sprawling Capella Hotel complex, which includes historic bungalows dating back to the British colonial period of the 1880s.
“This blend of the old and the new, the natural and the designed, infuses every acre of Capella Singapore," it adds.
America’s famously golf-loving commander in chief will be only a two-minute drive from two 18-hole championship courses, and Orchard Road, Singapore’s top shopping district, is just a 15-minute trip from the facility by car.
The hotel also houses a library designed “to look like your living room at home” and four on-site dining options, including Chef’s Table – a “designer home style kitchen” where patrons can sip afternoon tea.
Separately, a more-than 12,000 square-foot spa and fitness center featuring an ice fountain, an herbal steam room, as well as nine “experience rooms” outfitted with private gardens.
Each guest of the Capella Hotel is also greeted by their very own “Capella Personal Assistant” – an attendant “skilled and trained in the fine art of preferential service” who “will contact you before you arrive to help fashion your stay to fulfill your every preference,” according to the hotel’s website.
