First lady Melania Trump on Wednesday pushed back against speculation over her physical well-being and whereabouts, saying she’s “feeling great” and at the White House working on her political agenda.
“I see the media is working overtime speculating where I am & what I’m doing,” the first lady tweeted. “Rest assured, I’m here at the @WhiteHouse w my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!”
The White House has remained largely silent on the first lady’s status since her spokeswoman announced on May 14 that she was undergoing what the administration called a routine procedure at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center “to treat a benign kidney condition.”
The first lady has since maintained a relatively limited public profile, abstaining from appearing at ceremonial events like a Memorial Day wreath-laying at Arlington National Cemetery.
Her sporadic appearances prompted a wave of conspiracy theories about her health status and location.
In blasting news outlets, the first lady borrowed a frequent line of attack from President Donald Trump, who often slams the news media over reports on his administration he considers negative.
Earlier this month, but prior to her procedure, the first lady unveiled a new initiative aimed at boosting the “emotional, social, and physical health” of children. Her first formal public initiative since entering office.
The “Be Best” campaign is geared toward limiting “destructive and addictive behavior” by kids on social media and beyond.
